Ecology in masterplanning
Ecology in masterplanning
Developers and planners are increasingly realising the value of incorporating biodiversity at the very start of any project. This is particularly important for large and complex developments. By involving ecologists at the masterplanning stage, major hurdles related to environmental ecology are generally avoided, reducing the potential for significant costs and delays. For Environmental Impact Assessments we prepare the ecological chapter- see Environmental Impact Assessments.
Thomson Ecology consultants are professional project managers, well used to working alongside other disciplines on projects of a significant size.
We identify key environmental ecology factors in and around the site that might affect the development and then work with masterplanners and landscape architects to find cost effective ways in which to incorporate the biodiversity of the site.
If possible, ways will also be found to further enhance biodiversity, in line with planning guidance.

Land Securities
Thomson Ecology has been commissioned to advise on ecology and to carry out ecology surveys for the 700 acre Lodge Hill site in Chattenden, Kent. By bringing in ecological consultants at the start, Land Securities is able to build biodiversity into the Lodge Hill masterplan. We have carried out a wide range of wildlife surveys on the site and as a result have been able to make recommendations that have been incorporated into the development proposals. Ecological Management Plans are also being created to minimise disruption to any protected species found on site.
